NSWG-4 Claimancy Receives Golden Anchor Award

NSWG-4 Claimancy Receives Golden Anchor Award
By Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Joshua T. Rodriguez,
Naval Special Warfare Group 4 Public Affairs

Norfolk, Va. - Naval Special Warfare Group 4 (NSWG-4) received the
Retention Excellence Award for fiscal year 2008 in early March.

The Retention Excellence Award, also known as the golden anchor,
recognizes commands that meet or exceed retention goals in the Navy. All
Retention Excellence Award winners are required to win a minimum of two
out of the four quarterly honor rolls. Each command has to meet or
exceed specific percentages for reenlistment zones A, B and C, or meet
an attrition rate of 6.2 percent or lower.

"We are successful because the programs are supported by the command
and leadership," said NSWG-4 Chief Navy Career Counselor Lakeesha Lyon.
"Our chain of command shows tremendous support in allowing Naval Special
Warfare Sailors to develop in their careers and that is the key
contribution to Naval Special Warfare Group 4, Special Boat Team-12,
Special Boat Team-20, and Special Boat Team-22 receiving this
prestigious award for retention excellence."

NSWG-4 claimancy surpassed these objectives and reenlisted 47 Sailors,
maintained an 84 percent reenlistment rate, 86.4 percent retention rate,
and awarded more than $1.9 million in Selective Reenlistment
Bonus/Critical Skills Reenlistment Bonus money. NSWG-4 was the only
major command within Naval Special Warfare whose subordinate commands
were all also recognized with the golden anchor.

Additionally, the command maintained an attrition rate of less than .08
percent. "I believe that the chain of command and the climate that they create
determines the level of success for our Sailors," said Lyon. "Naval Special Warfare sets the bar high and continues to raise the standards."
